Nick Lane
Nick Lane is a freelance musician based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in Marshalltown, Iowa, Nick attended Drake University in Des Moines for two years before graduating from Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Soon after graduation he joined Maynard Ferguson’s touring band and stayed for four years, recording five albums contributing seventeen of his arrangements and compositions.
For the last 20 years Lane has been an active member of the Los Angeles music scene. He’s traveled extensively, most notably five world tours with Rod Stewart, as well as tours with The Who,Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and as a sub with the band Chicago. Not only has Nick contributed his diversity and talent to hundreds of albums and CD's, he is also involved in the commercial recording field for movies, television, and commercials.
Recent recordings for pop artists include Pink, Macy Gray, Tim McGraw, Babyface, Destiny’s Child, The Offspring, The Wallflowers, Ziggy Marley, Fastball, Green Day, Everclear, No Doubt, Natalie Merchant, Barbara Streisand and Joe Cocker. He has performed live with a wide variety of artists; from Frank Sinatra to Madonna to the L.A. Philharmonic. Nick has just released an instrumental jazz/R&B CD with baritone saxophonist Greg Smith, and organ trio. Recently he’s been recording and arranging for various CD projects ....an upcoming Christmas CD for the band Chicago, a solo CD project with Robert Lamm (keyboardist/singer with Chicago), and projects with various smooth jazz artists such as Rick Braun, Jeff Golub, David Benoit, Pual Taylor & Richard Elliot.
Nick has eleven big band charts written for school band available through Walrus Music. Plans are in the works to record some of his music for brass, including several pieces written for the 14-piece Hollywood Brass and numerous brass quintets.
